The competition and venues may have changed but scores remained consistent for the Weston High boys golf team in a couple of matches last week.
Not only did the Trojans post nearly identical rounds, such were among their better scores of the season. Hosting Bunnell on Monday, April 29, they shot under 160, beating the competition by 20 strokes (157-177) at Aspetuck Valley Country Club.
Aaron Cohen was the medalist, shooting a 37 for nine holes. He was one of two Weston golfers to shoot under 40 as Joey Klokus was one stroke behind him.
Captains Max Catucci and Jared Kapel each shot rounds of 41. Nigel Poppy also scored for Weston, turning in a 44.
Weston was back on the course to next day when it visited Notre Dame. Showing team balance, it had five players finishing within a span of four strokes in a 159-177 win at Fairchild Wheeler Golf Course in Fairfield.
Klokus was the sole medalist, this time with a 38. Poppy and Catucci each shot a 40.
One stroke later were Kapel and Cohen, each with a 41.
Now 8-2-1, Weston visits Pomperaug today (Thursday) at Heritage Village Country Club, hosts Stratford on Monday, goes to Newtown on Tuesday at Rock Ridge Country Club, and is at New Milford at Candlewood Valley Country Club on Wednesday. All matches are at 3 p.m.
