The 20th annual Weston Memorial Day 5K Road Race is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, at 8:30 a.m. Last year more than 500 racers walked, ran or rolled strollers over the USATF-certified course that begins on School Road and winds through Lords Highway, Old Hyde and Norfield Roads before looping back to finish at the High School.
The race is the single largest fundraiser for the High School PTO. Funds are used for specific project requests at the high school that are not covered by the school budget. Past projects include outfitting the school’s new television studio with its’ necessary technology and equipment.
In addition to winners in various age categories, cash prizes are awarded to the top overall finishers. This year’s race will again feature cash prizes for the first ($100), second ($50) and third ($25) place male and female finishers overall.
The one-mile Kids Fun Run for students in kindergarten through fifth grade will begin at a 8 a.m. This year is will feature a 440-meter run (one lap of the high school track), a one-mile run (four laps) and a 100-meter sprint and 110-yard dash.
Refreshments will be provided as well as free race T-shirts for the first 500 registrants.
Registration can be done online at www.weston5k.com, in-person the day of the race or by mail. Mailed registration forms must be postmarked by May 19. The fee is $20 through May 22, $30 May 23 and 24 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Weston High cafeteria and on race day from 7 to 8 a.m. The Fun Run fee is $10 in advance or on race day.
