Even though last year’s run was postponed because of Hurricane Sandy, almost 400 runners participated, raising money for several charities. The event netted approximately $27,000, which was shared by Purple Heart Homes, the ELIMINATE Project and the Kiwanis Foundation.
With the proceeds, Purple Heart Homes has started modifying a house for wounded veteran Staff Sgt. Sandra Lee, ELIMINATE has inoculated more than 5,000 women and their newborns against tetanus, and the Kiwanis Foundation has provided food cards to Weston Social Services, given money to the Weston Warm-up Fund and served other local needs.
This year the same three charities will be the beneficiaries of all net proceeds.
This year’s title sponsor again is Gatorade, with strong financial support from Fairfield County Bank. There will be food, music, prizes, and giveaways. JetBlue has committed to provide four round-trip tickets as prizes.
Online registration will begin within two weeks.
